Remote battery shutoff's are required on car's where the battery has been relocated to the trunk. My question is why. The answer "To shut it off when your in a wreck" doesn't make sense to me. Were they going to go under the hood otherwise? Usually the front takes the whack in a crash, so the hood's jammed shut anyway? I know rules are rules, and I don't have a problem with this rule, but I'm curious as to it's real origin.

Dave I see your point. I have one hot wire running to the sarter and the other hot wire is running to my switch box on the dash. Six switches on the dash kills everything but the line to the starter. Does this mean I need a switch to the starter wire as well? If it is for that reason I can see their point. But I think that it makes no differance where the battery is located, front or rear the cut off swich need to be on both not just the rear. The rear is easyer to get to anyway.

It's test.....well maybe training...
They love to watch you get all buckled in and then realize your battery is off, release belts and jump out, run to the back and flip the switch, jump back in and get the belts re-snapped and still make it to the line in time...

Na, they do it so that when you are kickin' booty on the track and your lane is called, they can come over and test it. Make you try to start your car with the switch off (not supposed to be able to start it), then see if (while the engine is running) they can kill the car by turning off the switch.
If ya think back Don, thats what happened to us.........(except for the slight of hand)......hehehe.....

Yup....but we got that fixed......throw the alternator into the trash pile..."We doone need no stankin' alternator"..... If you run an alternator you need to run the field wire through the switch so when you turn the switch off it kills the alternator power to the ignition system.

I believe it is to do with standing behind the car at the starting line if they see a problem with the car before it leaves they can shut you down from behind , still stupid though just don`t start the tree Have I mentioned I Hate NHRA this week?
