Winter up grades
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Ok folks I have been waiting to post this lets see what you all think. Last year the darts best pass was a 10.10 @ 131 mph the engine had Indy s/r heads with the stock 906 intake port and a mopar m1 4500 intake, Racer brown stx22 cam with 1.6 rockers the specs where 276@. 050 with .629 lift. Ross pistons with a 13 to1 comp stock stroke BME aluminum rods. The engine last year had some issues with valve float and after I change to a different valve spring to get rid of the float it started to wear the cam. I started out with 130lbs on the seat and 350lbs open but it was not enough pressure so I changed spring and now have 150lbs seat and 400 open. I sent the cam back to racer brown and he narrowed the lobes on the cam to turn it into a mushroom tappet cam and I am having Joe Schubeck build me a custom set of composite mushroom lifters so the cam will not wear and I can run even more valve spring pressure if needed. The reason for the mushroom lifter and not his off the shelf lifter is my cam uses the edge of the lifter and the composite lifter doesn’t like using the edge of the lifter so with a 1" mushroom lifter I have a much bigger foot print for the cam to use. Also I don't have to worry about cam break-in and can use these lifters on another cam later. The heads on the engine have now been opened up to the max wedge intake port and a new 4500 Indy intake to match. A new BG King Demon with changeable venturis and 1000 cfm will replace my old 1050 dominator. FBO systems rocker arms will replace my crane gold rockers but will retain the 1.6 ratio. No other engine mods will be made. Transmission My old tranny had some mods Griner brake but my new tranny has a bunch of new stuff A&A rollerized planetarys and the rear drum and output shaft support are now on a roller bearing. The front drum is now an A&A aluminum unit the Griner trans brake will be retained. I'm going to leave the old tranny in the car to see what kind of improvements the engine has made then put the tranny in later. I am extremely excited about these new mods and can't wait. Do you folks think nine-second quarter miles are in my future with these mods?
