Well, the kid has decided to rebuild his tired 340 for his senior project. Any recomendations are greatly appreciated. The car is his daily driver so we don't to go too wild. The car is a '70 Dart, freshly rebuilt 727 w/ stock convertor, 3.23 geared 8 3/4, 525 Road Demon(which works great, thanks Don), stock exhaust manifolds w/2 inch exhaust and flowmasters. The stock electronic ignition will be upgraded down the road. One last question, is it easier to pull the engine & trans as a unit, or pull the trans first then the motor? Thanks in advance for any replies.

I would pull them together. Plug the trans, as it will dump oil out. As for the rebuild, it depends on the funds for the job and what shape the parts are in. Finding a machine shop you trust is an issue.

Good points. The machine shop manager is a friend, and will be his mentor for the project. We finally got the car up to Southern Oregon Dragway last night for some test and tune for some base numbers. The car ran consistant 15.98 @88 mph, with no tuning and poor traction off the line. I think a fresh motor will require some slicks. Does MP still offer a rocker shaft and rocker kit?

We will be getting a Racer Brown cam, Edelbrock RPM intake, and probobly stick with stock rockers and ignition for now. Does Don sell the RB cams, or do I call them direct? Anyone got their number or web address?

Dons ignition is by far the best bang for the buck. A kid at his place the other day picked up 3 tenths with just that.
I would call RB myself. You know all the details of the car and know what you want out of the car. The performer RPM is good. I'd put up the extra bucks for the Cometic head gaskets. They are the best and reuseable.
