I have a question regarding heads. Building 1985 short/wide Royale SE for my daily driver average mph 65-80(approx. 150 miles round trip to work). So far I have NAPA premium long block bored .040(pistons & rods are out, doing "poor boy" balance with postal scale), adding moly rings, MP thin head gaskets, Lunati 204/216 dur 427/454 lift 112 lobe sep cam & lifters, MP roller timing set, Edel Performer 4-brl intake, Edel Perf carb #1400 /egr, FOB ign system, BHJ damp, MP polipass smog in TX for 5 more yrs. Truck has A999 trans w/lockup & 2.70 ratio RR. Motor is intended to be more of a torque motor, should peak @ about 4k rpm? Longblock came with a set of #593 heads(open chamber). I am wondering if I should find #302 heads? Or with this combo, what I have is fine. Any opinions or comments are greatly appreciated?

I would use the 302 heads , they are common & relativly cheap , & will add swirl for better mixing power, economy

The best part about the 302 heads is the closed chamber volume. Stock 318 heads are probably 65-63cc while the 302's are about 58cc. You'll raise compression a little less than a point.
