My manual says that the 3-1 downshift limit with 3:55 gears with a 340 is 22-35mph. My 727 did not seem to want to do a 3-1 downshift over the weekend. When I was driving around, I had to slow way down to drive over a rough spot (5-10mph or so) in the road. The tranny was in D before I started to slow down. Once I got thru the rough spot in the road I stepped down on the accel pedal pretty hard and it would not automatically 3-1. Once I stepped down on the pedal it took a second or two then it just did a 3-2 downshift and the car was very sluggish until the rpms came up.
Is there an adjustment that I can try to make the 3-1 more affective?
Note: I have a TF-2 kit, my kickdown band is at 72 in/lbs then out 2 turns, and my kickdown/throttle presure linkage is set so that when the carb is at full open the linkage slot has about a .03" or so before touching the linkage pin with spring attached.
Note: I reread the Transgo directions for any ideas. The only thing that I found is on the kickdown band adjustment. The directions say that if you have a 4.0 lever or lower to turn out the kickdown band adjuster to 2-1/2 turns out. I have a 3.8 arm and it is adjusted to just 2 turns out which is what the Transgo manual says is a good setting for a 5.0 lever. Would this be an issue? If so, please explain. Any suggestions are appreciated. Thanks
