I just had my transmission professionally rebuilt. It is better than new. But it has no shift kit and a stock converter. Do I really need any mods? It will be with a 440 Magnum with around 375hp-410hp. It will be an everyday street car with 1-2 hours of driving every 2 to 3 days. This is what the rebuild consisted of: # Split and overhaul torque converter + Overhaul kit. # Filter. # New front band & rear band. # Clutch fibre plates, clutch steel plates and clutch end plate. # New clutch drum and selective snap ring, new clutch dia spring and wave spring. # Complete new bush kit and thrust kit. # New over run roller and spring kit. I will put the foot down on the odd occasion and I want decent launches. Do I need a converter? Or maybe a shift kit. Transgo or TCI? I just want crisper shifts with no lag between gears. But no voilent shifts just quicker if thats possible. My transmission guy said you don't want to muck around with it too much, and he said you don't want jolting or hard shifts it's harsh on the trans. Any help? Cheers, NZ440R/T

From what little I know, a softer shift results in more wear on the bands and clutches. A simple stage 1 or 2 shift kit would be good. But the harder you hit the pedal, the harder it will shift.

Thanks, yeah I've done my research as I always do and seen that ALL the shift kits say that there kits will reduce wear and tear on the trans. But I'm just not sure which kit to get. Sounds like all I need is a shift kit and not a new converter.

I know some people running the Transgo stuff with no problems. Launching HARD and street. Both seem to work great

Yeah, I'm leaning that way. I bought a TCI Trans-scat valev body kit from Yearone months ago but my mechanic said I won't need it, this was "copied" from the YO site......do you think this is fine? Or should I look into the Transgo kit? The Trans-Scat kit is designed to eliminate transmission slippage and lag. Shifts are more positive and allow downshifting on demand. Clutch and band life is extended along with improved fuel economy. Suitable for towing or racing applications. Kit includes the separator plates, springs, check balls, drill bit, filter, pan gasket, installation hardware and instructions. Thanks for your help mate. Cheers, Carl
