well... went to the races yesterday... and y'all aint gonna believe this shit!!!... well, maybe you will... lol
i finally found someone with slower reaction times than i have...
a black primer 1/2 ton chevy pickup pulled up to the staging lanes. first thing i noticed was the drag slicks... small enough that the back end of the truck sat lower than the front. while he was in line for a time run, i wandered past the truck and glanced at the engine... now MY truck engine isnt pretty. it has a few miles of dirt and oil on it, but you can still see the paint through the grime... but this guys engine had about 3/4" of crud on the block. you know, the kind of buildup you get from millions of miles of driving on gravel roads with leaky valve covers. top that off with CHROME VALVE COVERS... brand new! oh yeah... no hood either. otherwise, i would guess that it was a stock 350, seeing that it was a small block and the engine OBVIOUSLY had never even been washed.
anyway, when he turned into the waterbox, i saw arkansas license plates on the truck. i thought "it figures"...
so he does his burnout... spinning ONE wheel... an open diff with DRAG SLICKS!!! and procedes to make a time run. now i have to give the guy some credit... the old truck made a fair pass... upper 15's--- dont remember the small numbers.
anyhow, during the 1st round of eliminations, he shows back up entered in the no electronics class with a 15.65 handicap, does his one wheel burnout and stages against a car that was sporting a 9.7something handicap. ok... they stage. tree starts counting... yellow yellow yellow GREEN... about 6 seconds later, the quick car takes the green. now they are both off and racing! (if you didnt catch it, the arkansas pickup gave up his handicap... he didnt move until the OTHER car went). he then got the old truck headed down the track... ran a 15.60 on hid 15.65 dial-in! so... to add insult to injury, he broke out. now im not real big at believing in omens, but at this point i think i would have taken my losses and just watched the rest of the races... but not this guy.
since it was round 1, the buy-back rule applied, and this guy hadnt had enough yet, so he buys back in. when he comes to the waterbox for round 2, he does his burnout (one wheel with slick), pulls to the line, and is immediately waved off of the starting line for a fluid leak!
i guess some days it just doesnt pay to get out of bed...
