Hey Russ I doubt that a plug change will help much, I would say you have a rich condition in the fuel system that needs to be addressed before you start changing plugs

Thanks Don. I'm not using a choke but I found the choke plate was partially closed. I need to either wire it open or remove the plate. I'll run it for a while and see what happens. I got your setup installed and man it fires right up and runs great! I did however have to back it off to 15 degree initial advance instead of 20 because it was cranking pretty slow when it was hot. It's a shame you can't incorporate a startup retard module in the ecm. Thanks again, Russ

Looking at your cam specs you should be able to run 18-20 easily with that much valve overlap. I'd be looking at a draw test on the starter, checking for adaquate grounds and battery condition, there is no way that if everything is correct you need to back that timing up.
I believe you have other issues.
As your reducing the initial your causing a rich idle condition and your retarding the total timing.
Have you done a static cranking compression test on tis motor? I'll bet it about 160 and any stock starter should not a problem with that number.

Thanks Don, I did reset it back to 20 degrees and it's been fine. You're right on the money, my cranking pressures are 160. It's been running great, I need to recheck the valve adjustments but other than that she is happy! ;D Thanks again Don and you have a great product!!
