For some reason my car doesn't want to idle unless I set the timing at 39 degrees total advance this seems a bit much. at idle it is about 19 degrees I am running a 400 B with closed chamber heads and 308 duration 525 lift Comp cam at 4 degrees advance. Secondly my tach is occasionaly bouncing about 500 RPM at idle nothing regular but a concern. it is an Auto Gage with shift light do these do this when they are about to go bad or is this a problem with MSD. thanks for any suggestions

You've got something wrong, even at 260 @ 50 you should be able to get it to run easily with about 24-26 initial.
39 is even too much for a total timing.
What carb are you running?
Are you sure you don't have a vacuum leak?
