The "other" Mighty 318!! This pic is from a benefit Car Show for a close friend of mine who suffered severe brain damage from a motorcycle wreck. I helped out at the show and had the honor of winning best drag car in a class of about 13 (including my bro's 11 second street Olds). This one's from the Speed Shop Showdown in October at Cordova Dragway park in Cordova Illinios. Is that a game face or what?!?! The motor is a 12.5:1 Aries Piston 40 over 318, with untouched "J" heads, a Racer Brown .510 lift/.292 Duration cam, a Holley (gasp!) 750, and a Edlebroch Victor 340 intake. The trans is a Jim Petersen 727 with a shift kit and a TCI 3800 stall. The rearend is an 8 3/4 unit with a 3.91 Sure grip, putting power through moser "stronger than stock" axles.

My best so far is 12.82@105.
Last time I raced I went up specifically to tune for ET, but spent most of the day fighting ignition problems.
I bought a set of the MSD multi angle wires and cylinders 5 and 7 burned completely through even through they had heat shielding. I also changed the plugs and ended up fouling one with a loose wire, and I broke one and had to go back to the old plug.
My main purpose for racing that day was to tweak the idle circuit and main jetting to get a little more ET (car is a little rich). After fighting the problems above, a buddy of mine that I thought was knowledgible about carbs, made an idle adjustment to my carb. It went way rich to a point it would not even idle in gear. I even had a vacuum gauge and was prepared to do it right!!
Anyway, didn't get to any more tuning or tweaking cause my brother dropped his driveshaft at 115 in his olds and I assumed his trophy entry. I then somehow managed to pull my Dad first round, and I relit against him.
